From 11-12 July, the Annual Political Dialogue of the Initiative for coal regions in transition took place in Velenje. Two members of the Coal Commission Secretariat, Balázs Hegyi and Patrik Póka, represented the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University at the conference.
The event brought together stakeholders from the Carbon+ regions to take stock of the progress made since the launch of the initiative and discuss the common challenges they face in today’s rapidly changing energy environment. The event was jointly organised by the European Commission, the Slovenian Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development and the Municipality of Velenje.
On the second day of the event, a round table discussion entitled “The transition of district heating systems in coal+ regions” was held, where our colleague Balázs Hegyi represented the Coal Commission Secretariat. The discussion focused on the key lessons learned from the Working Group on District Heating, current and planned decarbonisation measures for district heating systems, and the related challenges and tasks.
