The Coal Commission Secretariat was established in March 2021 as Hungary’s first permanent consultative forum on coal transitions with the aim of ensuring the involvement of stakeholders involved in coal transitions and the continuity of consultations as a proposing and decision-supporting organisation.
The Commission held its sixth meeting on 14 February 2023, focusing on the funding themes, beneficiaries and expected calls for the EU approved Operational Programme Environment and Energy Efficiency Plus, including the Just Transition.
The event took place in the municipality of Bükkábrány and was attended by about 40 participants. The meeting was a milestone in the history of the Coal Region Committee: it was the first meeting to take place after the adoption of the Territorial Just Transition Plans by the European Commission. The meeting was opened by Daniella Deli, Deputy State Secretary for Climate Policy, Consortium Leader of the LIFE-IP North-HU-Trans Integrated Project, representing the project and the Ministry of Labour.
The event was organised by the Coal Commission Secretariat of the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and the Municipality of Bükkábrány.
