The Coal Commission was established in March 2021 as the first permanent consultative forum on coal transition in Hungary.
The fifth session focused on the impact of potential future water shortages due to mine closures on natural values, wetlands, protected areas of the Borsodi Plain and the effects of future partial drying on the ecosystems.
Unlike before, the meeting took the form of a round-table discussion, facilitating dialogue between the members of the Commission. In total, more than 40 people attended the meeting in person and online.
The meeting was organised by the Coal Commission Secretariat in the framework of the LIFE IP North-HU-Trans project.
