On 18-19 October, the ‘Sokolov Inspires’ conference took place as part of the Just Transition Platform (JTP) Groundwork programme. Dr Zsuzsa Piskóti-Kovács, Head of the Coal Commission Secretariat, represented Eszterházy Károly Catholic University at the conference.

The Just Transition Platform (JTP) assists EU countries and regions in implementing one of the key elements of the European Green Deal, the Just Transition. In the Czech Republic, the municipality of Sokolov in the Karlovy Vary coal region has successfully applied for JTP Groundwork technical assistance, which will provide the municipality with tailored advice on mobilising stakeholders, identifying economic development opportunities in the area and addressing the problem of ‘brain-drain’.

As part of the programme, a two-day conference was organised with the main objective of bringing together international experts to inspire local stakeholders to make a just transition. Dr. Zsuzsa Piskóti-Kovács participated as a speaker and gave a presentation on how stakeholder engagement is taking place in the region: she described the work of the Coal Commission and gave a detailed presentation on the awareness-raising activities carried out by the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University in the framework of the LIFE project.

The participation in the conference was financed by the LIFE IP North-HU-Trans project.
