A delegation from the LIFE-IP North-HU-Trans project took part in an international study visit to Upper Nitra, Slovakia, in October 2022.
In the framework of the project’s Action A3 (Building links with former coal regions in the country and other EU regions), representatives of the consortium partners participated in a study tour organised by Spolu SME Prievidza. The main objective of the study tour was to learn about good practices abroad, the timetable for the Upper Nitra coal drainage and the area-specific socio-economic challenges of the transition.
During the study tour, the participants visited organisations actively involved in the planning and implementation of a just transition in the Upper Nitra coal region. They learned about training opportunities currently available for miners, projects planned by NGOs and municipalities to support the transition, and saw good examples of alternative uses for abandoned mines.
The participants of the study tour all returned home with valuable experience and new professional contacts.
The study trip was organised by the Coal Commission Secretariat of the Catholic University of Eszterházy Károly.
The study tour was carried out in the framework of the LIFE IP North-HU-Trans project.
