The 10th Just Transition Platform Conference took place in Brussels on 15-17 October, with the participation of two members of the Coal Commission Secretariat of Eszterházy Károly Catholic University - Zsuzsa Piskóti-Kovács PhD and Balázs Hegyi. In addition to our colleagues, some of the consortium partners of the LIFE-IP North-HU Trans project also attended the event, namely: the mayor and vice-mayor of Bükkábrány municipality.
Elisa Ferreira, European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, opened the 10th jubilee of the Just Transition Platform Conference. The Platform assists stakeholders in the use of the assistance provided by the Just Transition Mechanism, including the Just Transition Fund. The Platform actively promotes the exchange of best practices between all stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Just Transition.
During the event, the staff of the Secretariat established contacts with the Development Agency of the Velenje Coal Region (Slovenia) and discussed the possibilities of future cooperation. It was also an opportunity for the members of the Secretariat to use their existing contacts to introduce the two local actors to representatives of other coal regions and to link them with relevant actors in the European Commission.
After the conference, the Secretariat staff also participated in the 3rd meeting of the Stakeholder Engagement Working Group of the Just Transition Platform, which identified the actions that will be implemented by the Working Group members during the coming year. The Eszterházy Károly Catholic University is the only Hungarian member of the working group.
The last stop of the mission was the Multi-level Stakeholder Dialogue at the Committee of the Regions, where, among other things, the future of the just transition was discussed.
The participation in the conference was financed by the LIFE IP North-HU-Trans project.
