Within the framework of the LIFE-IP North-HU-Trans project at Eszterházy Károly Catholic University, one of the main tasks of the Coal Commission Secretariat is to build links with other coal regions. As part of this, a member of the Coal Commission Secretariat travelled to Brussels at the end of January for the COME RES Horizon 2020 project final conference and The European Climate Pact event.

The main objective of the COME RES Advancing Renewable Energy Communities Horizon 2020 project is to increase the share of renewable energy in the electricity sector. To achieve this, the project focuses on developing renewable energy communities in nine European countries, learning from regions with well-developed energy communities and supporting target regions where there is potential to develop such communities. The final event presented the project’s achievements. The conference provided a good opportunity for networking and to gain an overview of the situation in nine European countries with regard to the potential for the development of energy communities.

At the event, The European Climate Pact: Together in Action, climate ambassadors and representatives of civil society organisations presented the work done in the two years since its launch. The European Climate Pact is a movement of people taking action for a common cause in their own world to build a more sustainable Europe for all. Launched by the European Commission, the Pact is part of the European Green Deal and will help the European Union reach its 2050 climate neutrality target. The event was an opportunity to network with individuals and organisations involved in The European Climate Pact.
