The Coal Commission was established in March 2021 as the first permanent consultative forum on coal transition in Hungary, within the framework of the LIFE IP North-HU-Trans project. main task of the Commission is to support a sustainable and equitable transition in the North-Hungary region, involving all relevant organisations.
The current meeting was attended by more than 50 participants representing a wide range of stakeholders (trade unions, local, regional and central government institutions, chambers of commerce, research and education institutions, NGOs, businesses in the region). During the meeting, the participants received information from Daniella Deli, Deputy State Secretary for Climate Policy, on the latest relevant government decisions, and Beáta Iványiné Batta, Head of Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office, gave a presentation on the current status of the Just Transition Fund calls.
In the second part of the meeting, the Coal Commission Secretariat presented a map of the coal region, showcasing the curent progression in implementation of the just transition in the Visegrad 4 countries. The session ended with a presentation of projects that were formulated in response to the needs identified in the LIFE integrated project: Ferenc Rabi, President of the Trade Union of Mine, Energy and Industrial Workers, presented their START project, while Zsuzsa Piskóti-Kovács PhD presented the ERASMUS+ project MINED+.
